Clare McBane – Head Women's Soccer Coach


Clare McBane is in her fourth season as head coach of the Lady Barons soccer program. She was named interim head coach in the spring of 2013 after one season as an assistant coach and then officially took over the program during the summer leading into the 2013 season.

In her three years at the helm, McBane has led the Lady Barons to two consecutive postseason appearances (2013 and 2014) and a share of the regular-season conference title in 2014. Franciscan is 31-21-3 under McBane with a conference record of 15-10-2 in her three seasons as head coach.

Under McBane, 15 Lady Barons have been named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference teams, including eight to the first team.

During the 2015 season, the Lady Barons went 6-8-2 while boasting one of the best defenses in the conference. Franciscan's defense finished the year with a 1.46 goals against average and a .786 save percentage.

In 2014 after leading Franciscan to a share of the regular season conference title, McBane was named the AMCC Coach of the Year. That year, the Lady Barons boasted a program-best record of 13-5-1 and went 8-1 in conference play. Franciscan out-scored its opponents 43-25 and finished the year with a program-best 111 points. McBane's defense boasted an impressive 1.34 goals against average and finished the year with seven shutouts.

As a first-year head coach in 2013, McBane led the Lady Barons to a 12-8 record and a 5-4 slate in the AMCC. After winning their final game of the regular season, the Lady Barons earned a spot in the AMCC tournament for the first time since joining the conference. Franciscan won its first playoff game with a 3-1 victory over Pitt.-Greensburg and advanced to the semifinal round. The Lady Barons that year scored 31 goals and finished the season with 84 points.

Before becoming an assistant coach for the 2012 season, McBane spent four years as a student-athlete at Franciscan where she was the team captain and an All-Conference defender for the Lady Barons for her senior season in 2011.

McBane graduated from the university in 2011 with a degree in education. She currently lives in Steubenville with her husband Dan.
